New Mexico State Parks Foundation Hosts Gala to Support Critical Program
ALBUQUERQUE – There’s little argument environmental education is the critical key needed to turning around childhood obesity and society’s growing lack of knowledge about our natural world. The New Mexico State Parks system is aware of the crisis and is working to build their “Outdoor Classroom” concept into New Mexico’s leading environmental education solution. The “Outdoor Classroom” is a critical component of the “No Child Left Inside” initiative, a program designed to connect children to nature through various educational programs statewide. New Mexico State Parks biggest hurdle is a gross lack of funding for the program.
The New Mexico State Parks Foundation is doing their part to help by inviting support from the public and celebrating the New Mexico State Parks 75th anniversary with “New Mexico’s Acres of Diamonds,” gala dinner and silent auction, 6 p.m., Sat., Sep. 6, 2008 at the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum located at 9201 Balloon Museum Drive NE. Dinner will be catered by The Cooperage.
Former New Mexico Governor, David F. Cargo will be the evenings keynote speaker and Music will be provided by Danny Sedillo. Under the direction of Cargo, several of the state’s most popular parks were acquired, including; Clayton Lake, Villanueva, Coyote Creek and Percha Dam state parks.
Tickets are $100 per person, $800 per table and must be purchased in advance by phone, (505) 977-4076 or online, www.nmstateparksfoundation.com. Proceeds will benefit the New Mexico State Parks “Outdoor Classroom Program.”
