Gerald E. Weinstein, Chairman

Gerald E. Weinstein is an avid sportsman and dedicated conservationist.
Weinstein served in the U.S. military for 29 years. Wienstien graduated
from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD in 1953 with
a B.S. Engineering. He obtained his MSEE from the Air Force Institute
of Technology, WPAFB, OH in 1958. Weinstien also attended the Navy
Electronics Technology School, Great Lakes, IL & Washington,
D.C., various US Air Force officer professional schools, graduate
physics courses and the Doctorate EE program at the University
of New Mexico. In 1975, Weinstein accepted a position with the
BDM Corporation
in Albuquerque, NM, holding several technical and management leadership
positions with the company for 12 years until retirement as Vice
President, Nuclear Programs, in June 1987. From 1985-1987, he was
an Industry Representative and Member of the Curriculum Committee
for the University of New Mexico Nuclear and Chemical Engineering
Dept. Finally, Weinstein worked 5 years in the consulting business,
providing technology and management services and advice to such
New Mexico companies as BDM, Proteus, Vista Tech, Correa Enterprises,
UIE, S-Systems. Weinstein was appointed to the New Mexico State
Parks
Advisory Committee (PAC) from 1998-2003, by then Governor Gary Johnson.

Orlando “Orlie” Sedillo

Orlando
Sedillo is a Former Director of the State Parks Division (1987) and
currently chairman of the Parks Advisory Board (PAB). Sedillo retired
April 2001 as Director of Solid Waste Management for the City of
Albuquerque, a position held since 1997. His extensive and varied
experience in government includes positions as Assistant Director
of the Human Resources Program of the U. S. Forest Service in Washington,
D.C., and director of the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation
Department. An avid outdoorsman, Sedillo was appointment by former
Governor Bruce King to serve on his Recreation Priorities Advisory
Committee, and was appointed by Secretary of Interior Donald Hodel
to serve as a member of the Bureau of Land
Management’s Albuquerque District Advisory Council. His numerous awards
include the Outstanding Executive Award by the Hispano Chamber of Commerce in
1977; the Governor of New Mexico’s Distinguished Public Service Award in
1985; and the Central New Mexico Audubon Society’s Washburn Award in 1986.
Mr. Sedillo is also a member of the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation
Advisor Board; member of the State Parks Foundation Board; member of the New
Mexico Recreation and Parks Association Board; and is President of the Board
of Directors of Very Special Arts (VSA). Mr. Sedillo retired in April, 2001 after
40 years of public service. A New Mexico native, Mr. Sedillo graduated from St.
Mary’s High School in Albuquerque and went on to earn a bachelor’s
degree in Sociology from the University of Albuquerque. Married to his wife,
Jeanette, for forty eight years, they have five children and ten grandchildren.

Karen Brown

Karen Brown, Ph.D. currently works in the recreation planning, management
and education fields through her business, Karen Brown Consultants.
Brown retired from the New Mexico State Parks system in April 2004
after a 26 ½ year career. At retirement she was the Superintendent
of the Rio Grande Nature State Park in Albuquerque. Born in Pennsylvania
and educated in Ohio, Brown began her career with the American Red
Cross managing recreation programming in military hospitals. In 1976,
Brown completed a Master’s degree in Park Management at the
University of New Mexico and went to work for the New Mexico Natural
Resources Department as a recreation planner. She focused on grants
and planning for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, a program
which provided money for local communities to build parks and other
outdoor recreation facilities. In 1987, Brown completed her Doctorate
in Education. Brown is also an active ballooning enthusiast and volunteer
at the Albuquerque Balloon museum. Brown serves as a Board member
for the Friends of Smokey Bear Balloon, Inc and Balloon Explorium,
Inc. Explorium’s mission is to educate the public about ballooning
and Smokey teaches fire prevention.
